Sound of godwit becomes a vase

Jannewietske de Vries and Jonathan Keep
A vase made out of sound; it seems a bit funny, but during a workshop in the Flex-workplace Blokhuispoort, Jonathan Keep showed how he manages to transfer the sound waves of godwit singing into a 3D design for a vase. Ultimately, the design can be produced by a 3D ceramic printer. The godwit, or Kening fan ‘e Greide as it is called in Frisian, is being followed since last year on its migrating expeditions to and from warmer parts of the world. You can follow these birds live through an interactive online map. A vase with a remarkable story was handed to Jannewietske de Vries, deputy of the Province of Fryslân, by the artist himself.
